Agrosecurity/Biosecurity
Educational Program for Georgia Poultry Producers

Protecting Georgia's Poultry Farms

The need for protecting our farms from biological contamination as a result of either accidental or intended introduction of a pathogenic organism is greater than any time in our history. The presence and spread of a highly pathogenic form of Avian Influenza in Asia and parts of Europe and the potential devastation that a disease of this nature could bring to the poultry industry of the United States makes preparedness and preventative measures paramount to the protection of our State's most important agricultural commodity. The terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the subsequent capture of Al Qaeda documents devoted to agricultural terrorism clearly demonstrate a desire to cause harm and destruction to our society. These threats to our security and the economic stability of our industry require increased biosecurity measures and physical security plans for our farms.
